Helping the Homeless

Most of us don’t think twice when buying essentials such as clothing and personal care products, but there are many people doing it tough in Perth who are unable to provide that for themselves.

So when we saw the “Essentials for Women of Perth” project on Facebook, we very quickly put our hand up to become an official drop off point for anyone who would like to donate items to those in need.

The initial plan was to collect underwear and feminine hygiene products for homeless women, as those are items that are generally not donated to refuges or organisations who help the homeless. The project has since grown to accept a wider variety of items for all homeless people – men, women, and children, focusing on the items that are not are readily donated.

We are accepting donations until November 30th, which are being collected twice a week by Ruah. Ruah is an organisation which provides services for the homeless, and they will distribute the items to those who need them.

The items most in need are:

  • Women’s underwear (new) size 8-16
  • Men’s underwear (new) all sizes
  • Children’s underwear (new) for ages 3+
  • Women’s disposable sanitary items including tampons, pads and liners (not cloth; they don’t have the facilities to launder them)
  • Essential toiletries including shampoo, conditioner, soap, razors and deodorant
  • Socks for women and men
  • Children’s pyjamas for ages 3+

We are offering 10% off all disposable pads and toiletries if anyone would like to purchase items stocked here at Totally Sound Health to donate.

And if you can’t make it in to see us, you can make a purchase online that we’ll put straight into the donation box for you! Just use the coupon code PWE2014 and select the “Essentials for Women Donation” postage option so that you don’t get charged any postage fees.
